Ten pieces accumulate, then twenty. Around thirty, something strange begins: it becomes hard to remember which character appeared in which manuscript. Distinguishing what has already been written about Kang Myeongsuk from what remains unwritten takes time. Two manuscripts contain similar scenes, yet no one knows whether the repetition was intentional or accidental.

This is not a problem of memory but of management. Writing one hundred pieces is both authorship and administration. Without management, writing alone leads to confusion after the fiftieth piece.

This lecture presents a management system for a one-hundred-piece project.

Operating the Coverage Matrix

Chapter 5 introduced the coverage matrix. Here we examine how to operate it in practice.

Matrix structure. Put the character list on the vertical axis and piece numbers on the horizontal axis. In each cell, briefly record the manuscript code, form, and material type.

In a simplified matrix, Kang Myeongsuk appears in Piece 1 (ST-01-short story/pre-performance) and Piece 3 (ST-15-sketch/waiting room); Member B appears once in Piece 2 (ST-07-comic dialogue/junior); and Contractor B appears once in Piece 1 (ST-04-short story/commission). Each cell contains an abbreviated code, form, and material type.

At a glance, the matrix reveals how many manuscripts each character has, how often each form has been used, and which material has already been covered.

When to update. Update the matrix as soon as a manuscript passes—immediately after completing its QA report. If completed manuscripts pile up for a later batch update, omissions become inevitable.

Review cycle. Review the entire matrix whenever ten more pieces are complete. Which characters remain empty? Which forms are scarce? Which material types are repeating? Use the answers to plan the next ten pieces.

This resembles the distribution of characters across six seasons of the American series Lost. Its fourteen principal and supporting characters received one or two “centric” episodes per season so that each became a protagonist at least once every season. The MCU's phase management follows a similar logic: at the end of a phase, it checks which heroes received solo films and corrects the imbalance in the next. The multiple viewpoints of the Korean webtoon Free Draw and the cast matrix of Lookism were organized with a comparable approach.

Managing the Manuscript Archive

File management also matters. A hundred files mixed in one folder are difficult to find.

We use the following principles.

Filename rule: ST-[piece number]-[character code]-[form code].md

In the filename, ST abbreviates “Storytelling 100 manuscript.” Design-sheet files use the prefix DS. ST and DS numbers correspond one-to-one: a manuscript based on DS-001 becomes ST-001. Store its QA report beside it as ST-001-QA.md.

Assign piece numbers in order of completion. Use the code or name assigned in the Vault for the character code, and short story/sketch/comic dialogue/four-panel comic for the form code.

The complete folder holds each manuscript with its QA report. The design-sheets folder holds the corresponding design document, while in-progress contains the manuscript currently being written.

This structure makes every manuscript easy to find and allows its design sheet and QA report to be viewed together.

Maintaining World Consistency

As one hundred pieces accumulate, consistency becomes the hardest part of the world to manage. Settings established early can shift unnoticed in later manuscripts.

A system is needed to prevent this.

World-conflict log. Whenever two manuscripts conflict, record the conflict, both filenames, and its resolution. As entries accumulate, patterns reveal which aspects of the world are most prone to contradiction.

There are three types of resolution: (1) Revise the later manuscript. Correct it according to the Vault. (2) Update the Vault. If the later manuscript is more precise, use it to update the Vault and add a footnote or change note to the earlier manuscript. (3) Explain the conflict through the timeline. If the manuscripts concern different periods and the world can be understood to have changed between them, record the moment of change in the timeline.

Vault version control. Whenever the Vault changes, record the date and details: which item was added, from which manuscript, and for what reason. This becomes the record of the feedback loop.

Character-consistency checklist. Once a character has appeared in at least three manuscripts, check that character's consistency. Are speech habits stable? Are the physical-anchor traits preserved? Do relationship records conflict with other manuscripts?

Managing the Timeline

If K-pop K has a timeline, manage where each manuscript sits within it.

Timeline conflicts are the hardest world contradictions to detect. Manuscript A may treat Event X as already over, while the later-written Manuscript B treats it as not yet happened. Such contradictions arise when the temporal location of each manuscript is left unspecified.

State that location in every manuscript. In the design sheet's background check, write something like: “Timeline reference: year N after debut, before/after Performance X.”

An excessively detailed timeline is difficult to manage. For slice-of-life scenarios, an approximate period often suffices: early debut / middle period / present.

Managing Duplicate Material

The same material handled by different characters is not duplication. If Kang Myeongsuk and another member each face “waiting for a fan signing,” the same situation in the same world is being seen from two viewpoints.

Duplication occurs when the same character handles the same material. If two Kang Myeongsuk manuscripts both concern waiting for a fan signing, they must be differentiated by period, supporting character, Fun Engine, or stakes.

Recording material types in the coverage matrix makes such duplication easy to find.

Approaching the Completion of One Hundred Pieces

After fifty pieces, the project enters a different phase. The abundant ideas of the beginning give way to a phase in which available material has increasingly been used. Several changes are necessary.

Rediscover material. Systematically repeat the four-way material discovery process from Chapter 6. Review the fifty finished manuscripts and look for unexplored gaps.

Reanalyze characters. Check characters who have never been protagonists or have appeared only in supporting roles. Reopen their Vault entries and ask whether material now exists that deserves exploration from the center.

Expand intersecting relationships. Find pairs of characters who have not yet met across the fifty manuscripts, then explore the buddy dynamics they might create. As the project develops, material increases rather than decreases because established relationships become more complex even as unused combinations grow fewer.

Deepen the world. Explore aspects of the initial world that no manuscript has yet addressed. Which Vault entries remain unexpressed in a manuscript? Each is potential material.

What Completing One Hundred Pieces Means

One hundred pieces are completed. The number matters, but another completion matters more.

It proves that the K-pop K world has become rich enough to sustain one hundred slice-of-life scenarios. Many of its hundred members have manuscripts of their own, or have appeared sufficiently elsewhere to become living presences for readers. The Vault is far thicker than at the beginning, filled with world details discovered through writing.

The writer has changed as well: one hundred design sheets, one hundred QA reports, and one hundred manuscripts. Techniques repeated throughout the process eventually become instinct—the ability to design stakes automatically without a design sheet, plant a world signal naturally while opening a piece, and gather a manuscript toward its landing.

This is the state of the writer that the one-hundred-piece project seeks to create.

What Chapter 13 Conveys

One hundred pieces require management as well as writing. Writing without management hits a wall at fifty. Good management connects the manuscripts and allows the world to grow.

The coverage matrix is the center of that management. It shows where the project stands and where it should go next.
