Character Introduction

The fourth Bennet daughter, a frivolous girl interested only in officers and balls under Lydia’s influence. Though older than Lydia, she is weaker in character, follows Lydia everywhere, and shows almost no initiative of her own. She cries because she cannot accompany Lydia to Brighton and grows jealous when Lydia marries first. By the conclusion, however, she has escaped Lydia’s harmful influence and is described as having “considerably improved” under Jane and Elizabeth’s guidance.
