(Omniscient Narration)
Mr. Bennet was so odd a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour,
reserve, and caprice, that the experience of three-and-twenty years had
been insufficient to make his wife understand his character.”(第1章)
(Limited Point of View)
例:“Elizabeth was surprised, but said not a word.”(第32章)
- 第6章:ダーシー視点(“He began to wish to know more of her”)
- 第12章:ダーシー視点(“Elizabeth had been at Netherfield long enough”)
- 第44章末:ガーディナー夫妻視点(“it was evident that he was very much in love”)
How despicably have I acted! I, who have prided myself on my
discernment!”(第36章)
分析:
- “How despicably have I acted!”
- “she grew absolutely ashamed of herself”(語り手)→
“Of neither Darcy nor Wickham could she think...”
“How despicably have I acted!”(エリザベスの直接思考)
- “she felt” / “she thought” の後も人物の口調が続く
|---|---|---|---|---|

| 第50章 | エリザベス | “She began now to comprehend that he was exactly the man who, in disposition and talents, would most suit her” | 完全な愛のFID | 高 |
| 第50章 | エリザベス | “What a triumph for him, as she often thought, could he know that the proposals which she had proudly spurned...” | “as she often thought” がFIDを明示 | 中 |
| 第61章 | 語り手(アイロニー) | “Happy for all her maternal feelings was the day on which Mrs. Bennet got rid of her two most deserving daughters” | 夫人の視点を引用し皮肉る語り手のアイロニー | 高 |
Bennet, who fancied she had gained a complete victory” | ベネット夫人 | ダーシーの軽蔑を深めた敗北 |
| 第17章 | “Mr. Collins might never make the offer, and, till he did, it was useless to quarrel” | エリザベス | コリンズは必ず求婚する |
| 第19章 | “He had fully proposed being engaged by Wickham” | エリザベス | ウィカムは来ない |
|---|---|---|---|
| 第1章 | “The business of her life” | ベネット夫人の結婚事業 | “business” という経営語で皮肉る |
| 第15章 | “This was his plan of amends—of atonement—for inheriting” | コリンズの求婚動機 | “atonement”(贖罪)という宗教語で皮肉る |
| “She could not be insensible to the compliment” |
She was a woman of mean understanding” |
| “she felt” / “it seemed to her” | 人物 → 語り手への移行 | “Elizabeth felt that they had entirely mistaken his character” |
(FID) | “How despicably have I acted!” |
| “perhaps” / “it is possible” | 語り手のアイロニー的留保 | “Perhaps he had been civil only because he felt himself at ease” |
事例1:第43章 “to be mistress of Pemberley might be something!”
- 翻訳: 正直な感嘆として扱い、続く “But no—that could never be” という自己修正で均衡させる。
事例2:第44章 “it was evident that he was very much in love with her”
事例3:第50章 “no such happy marriage could now teach the admiring multitude what connubial felicity really was”
“If gratitude and esteem are good foundations of affection, Elizabeth's change of sentiment will be neither improbable nor faulty. But if otherwise, if the regard springing from such sources is unreasonable or unnatural, in comparison of what is so often described as arising on a first interview with its object, and even before two words have been exchanged, nothing can be said in her defence, except that she had given somewhat of a trial to the latter method, in her partiality for Wickham, and that its ill success might, perhaps, authorize her to seek the other less interesting mode of attachment.”
