本文書は、作中で固有名詞ではなく、代名詞・指示語・慣用表現だけによって指される存在を追跡する。 “this gentleman”“that lady”“his friend”“a certain person”など、文脈なしには正体を特定できない表現と、その実際の指示対象、位置（章・節）、分類を整理する。
翻訳時に代名詞の指示対象を明示するか、そのまま残すかを判断するために用いる。
